Kodama is Dean and Professor of Graduate School of Engineering
Management (MOT Program) at Shibaura Institute of Technology in Tokyo.
He is also Professor Emeritus at The University of Tokyo. During
1994-2003, he was Professor in the University of Tokyo (Research Center
of Advanced Science and Technology, Graduate School of Engineering, and
Director at Research Center of Advanced Economic Engineering).
Previously, he taught at Graduate School of Policy Science in
Saitama University (now National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies)
in 1984-1993. In addition to teaching, he has worked as
Director-in-Research at National Institute of Science and Technology
Policy (NISTEP) in Science and Technology Agency in 1988-1991. He was
also Adjunct Professor at National Center for Science and Information
Systems (NACSIS) in 1995-1999.
He was Visiting Professor of Kennedy School of Government at
Harvard University in 1991-1992, teaching in the Program on Science,
Technology, and Public Policy. In 1992-1993, he was Visiting Professor
of Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, teaching in the VTSS
(Program in Values, Technology, Science, and Society) Program.
Kodama is a graduate of the University of Tokyo, where he
received B.S., M.S. in mechanical engineering (in 1964, 1967), and
earned Ph.D. in Engineering in 1974. Dr. Kodama is a member of
Engineering Academy of Japan; an Editor of Research Policy; Associate
Editor of Technology Analysis & Strategic Management; an Editorial
Board Member of Innovation management policy & practice; and an
Editorial Board Member for The Journal of Science Policy and Research
Management in Japan. He is the author of many articles on technology policy and management. One of his works is "Analyzing Japanese High Technology: the Techno-Paradigm shift", (Pinter Publishers, London, 1991), the Japanese version of which received the 1991 Sakuzo Yoshino Prize. He is also a recipient of the 1991 Science and Technology Minister's Award for Research Excellence. His journal publications include "Technological Diversification of Japanese Industry" (Science, 1986), "Technology Fusion and the New R&D" (Harvard Business Review, 1992), and ¡§Measuring Emerging Categories of Innovation: Modularity and Business Model,¡¨ (Technological Forecasting and Social Change, 2003). His books include "Emerging Patterns of Innovation: Sources of Japan's Technological Edge" (Harvard Business School Press, 1995), and "Industrializing Knowledge: University-Industry Linkages in Japan and the United States" (Branscomb L., Kodama F. and Florida R. (eds.): The MIT Press, 1999). |
